Help & FAQ

Everything you need to know about Rekha.app

Getting Started

How do I start tracking time?

Simply go to the "Today" view and start selecting time slots:

  • Desktop: Click individual time slots (15-minute blocks) to select them
  • Mobile: Long press (hold for 0.5 seconds) on time slots to select them
  • Range selection: Select start slot, then select end slot to choose the entire range
  • Cross-day selection: Select from one day to another (e.g., sleep from 10pm to 6am)
  • The activity selection sheet opens automatically after selecting your range
  • Add notes if needed to remember details

How does the time grid work?

Each day is divided into 96 time slots representing 15-minute intervals from 00:00 to 23:45. You can select multiple activities for the same time slot if you were multitasking.

Visual indicators: The current time slot is highlighted in red, selection start points are green, and selected ranges are blue. This helps you see exactly where you are in time and what you've selected.

Can I track time for past dates?

Yes! The "Today" view shows three days (2 days ago, yesterday, today) and you can track time on any of them. Use the "History" view to see historical data.

Mobile Usage

How do I use this on my phone?

Rekha.app is designed mobile-first with touch-optimized interactions:

  • Long press (hold for 0.5 seconds) to select time slots
  • Range selection: Long press start time, then long press end time
  • Cross-day selection: Start on one day, end on another (great for sleep tracking)
  • Scroll normally: Quick taps and swipes won't interfere with selection
  • Current time: Red highlight shows where you are right now
  • The interface automatically adapts to your screen size

Can I install this as an app?

Yes! Rekha.app is a Progressive Web App (PWA):

  • iPhone/iPad: Tap Share → "Add to Home Screen"
  • Android: Tap the browser menu → "Add to Home screen" or "Install app"
  • Desktop: Look for the install prompt in your browser

Does it work offline?

Absolutely! Once loaded, Rekha.app works completely offline. Your data is stored locally on your device and doesn't require an internet connection.

Data & Privacy

Where is my data stored?

All your time tracking data is stored locally in your browser's storage on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers or any third parties.

What if I clear my browser data?

Clearing browser data will delete your time tracking information. To prevent data loss:

  • Use the browser's export function to backup your data
  • Install the app (PWA) which provides more persistent storage
  • Avoid using private/incognito mode for regular tracking

Can I sync across devices?

Currently, each device stores its own data locally. We're planning to add optional cloud sync as a paid feature in the future, but it will always be opt-in and encrypted.

How can I export my data?

You can export your time tracking data as high-quality PNG images from the Settings page or History page. For raw data export, you can use your browser's developer tools to access local storage. See the Export & Data Management section below for detailed instructions.

Features & Settings

How do I create custom activities?

Go to the Settings page to manage your activities:

  • Add new activities with custom names and colors
  • Choose different visual patterns (hachure, dots, etc.)
  • Edit or delete existing activities
  • Changes apply to all your time tracking

What are the different views for?

  • Today: Track time across three days with range selection, current time indicator, and quick help access
  • History: Browse unlimited historical data with virtualized scrolling, synchronized notes, and activity context
  • Summary: View comprehensive analytics dashboard with insights, trends, and time statistics
  • Settings: Customize activities, colors, patterns, themes, and manage app updates

How do notes work?

Notes are independent of activities and can span across multiple time slots or even days. Use them to add context, remember what you were working on, or track specific details.

In the History view, notes automatically show which activities were happening during that time period, with colored indicators for better context.

How does the History view handle large amounts of data?

The History view uses virtualization to efficiently handle unlimited amounts of historical data. Only visible dates are rendered, so performance remains smooth even with years of time tracking data. The notes section automatically updates to show only notes for the dates currently visible in the timeline.

Analytics & Insights

What analytics are available?

The Summary page provides comprehensive insights:

  • Total tracked time and tracking percentage
  • Weekly comparisons with trend indicators
  • Activity breakdowns with daily averages
  • Focus sessions and productivity streaks
  • Peak hours for each activity
  • Multitasking patterns

How far back does data go?

Currently, you can track and view unlimited historical data. We're considering a paid tier that extends history beyond 3-4 weeks for users who need long-term analytics.

Export & Data Management

How do I export my time tracking data?

You can export your data as high-quality PNG images from two locations:

  • Settings page: Full export interface with all options
  • History page: Quick export using the mobile-optimized bottom sheet
  • Both interfaces provide identical functionality with the same export options

What export options are available?

You can customize your exports with these options:

  • Export periods: Current week, specific week number, or week ranges
  • Visual elements: Include/exclude dates, time labels, activity legend
  • Activity statistics: Optional breakdown showing hours, minutes, and percentages
  • Notes: Include your notes at the bottom of the export
  • Week start preference: Monday or Sunday (configurable in Settings)

How do week range exports work?

Week range exports let you create multi-week visualizations:

  • Select start and end weeks (e.g., Week 23 to Week 28)
  • Time labels appear on each row of weeks for easy reading
  • Date range preview shows exact dates being exported
  • Validation prevents invalid ranges (start after end)
  • Automatically groups weeks into rows for optimal layout

What about activity statistics in exports?

When enabled, activity statistics appear below the legend showing:

  • Total time spent on each activity (hours and minutes)
  • Percentage of total tracked time
  • Only activities with recorded time are included
  • Statistics are calculated across the entire exported date range

What's the export quality and resolution?

Exports are generated at high resolution (32px cells) with enhanced rough.js patterns for crystal-clear visualization. The PNG format ensures compatibility with all devices and applications, perfect for sharing, printing, or archiving your time tracking data.
